Milk and dairy products are, as with other foods, required to be compliant with general food law and legislation. Good hygiene management is a precondition to ensure high quality of raw milk.
[Q&A]On farms using milking robots, is it possible to use the number of milkings to steer on protein?
Research conducted by Lely together with feed supplier Cehave Landbouwbelang shows that limiting the number of milkings with late lactation cows can produce a higher protein content. When the robot is very full, limiting the number of milkings will also have a positive effect on the robot's capacity. You will get more milk per measurement and the treatment time is less. It works both ways.
Effectiveness of teat and udder cleaning
On behalf of the Faculty of Veterinary Science of the Utrecht University and Lely Industries N.V. at Maassluis a study has been conducted into the effectiveness of teat and udder cleaning as performed by the Astronaut robotic milking system.

Robot cleaning: two or three times a day?
The complete cleaning process for the Lely Astronaut® milking robot only takes 15 minutes. With such a short cleaning time, there is not a great deal to be gained in terms of extra output when the system will be cleaned only twice a day. However, you will save some energy for heating up water as well as reducing detergent consumption.
The durability of wearing parts is a crucial issue in robotic milking. Lely has an obvious preference for silicone material over rubber to ensure sustainability of critical wearing parts in the robot such as teat cup liners and milk hoses.
Robotic milking to solve butyric acid problems
Throughout silage production, microbial processes take place to conserve the roughage. A major element within the process of making good silage is to stimulate the production of lactic acid to ensure that the silage is well conserved.
Robotic milking and bacterial counts
Bacterial counts are always a crucial factor in milk extraction, be it through a milking robot or by means of traditional milking methods.
