Milking
A gamechanger story

"“Rob convinced me that robotics was the way to go!” – Moira Anstis"
Meet Rob & Moira Anstis, Opotiki, bay of plenty
Meet Rob and Moira Anstis who are farming 100 hectare at the Amokura Road in Opotiki, bay of plenty. Milking 230 cows on three Lely Astronaut milking robots.
Gone are the days of waking up at 4am to milk cows and the robots have reduced the equivalent of half of one full-time employee from the milk shed daily. This allows Moria and Rob to spend time on other jobs around the farm including growing their kiwifruit business.
“We can get up early in the morning and do 30 minutes of work and then go fishing. We'll be in the water at 06.00 am while we were normally milking.” – Rob Anstis

30% increase in their first season with robots
Rob and Moira milk since 2020 with three Lely Astronaut A5 milking robots 230 cows. Since starting robotics is has completely changed the way they farm.
Milk production jumped about 30% in the first season with robots, compared to conventional once-a-day milking.
“My biggest concern before we installed the robots was that the cows would be coming up from a hill of the front and back of the farm. They assured me they will walk and they do!” – Moira Anstis
